Employment Opportunity - Teacher specialist in English – Social Studies (K – 12 programming)
Kapawe’no First Nation is seeking an individual to fill the full time permanent position at Kapawe'no First Nation School.
Under the general direction of the Chief and Council and the Education Manager (EM) who supervises all employees in the Educational Departments, the successful candidate for this position would be responsible for the following:
Development of special education programming for multi-grade classrooms that cater to students in a variety of settings including but not limited to the following: Home Schooling, Blended Home – School Learning, Virtual Classroom Learning involving students in a secondary “bricks and mortars” location, Virtual Classroom Learning involving students through remote learning at home.
Development of Asynchronous and Synchronous materials as necessary utilizing Alberta Education’s Program of Studies and appropriate Alberta Curriculum for the grade levels you instruct.
Complete all special education forms and reports as required and coordinate IEP development and accountabilities for staff and parents
follow directions and policies as governed by Chief and Council and or directed by the Education Manager
MAIN DUTIES
To develop and maintain curriculum appropriate to the varied and diverse learning needs of the children you instruct
Streaming virtual instruction to a variety of students involved in Virtual Classroom, Home, or Blended Learning programs.
Maintain a high level of skill and knowledge in a variety of Google Applications for Education (G.A.F.E.) programming, including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Google Slides, Google Classroom and its related applications: Peardeck, Jigsaw, etc.,
Utilize appropriate assessment strategies of Assessment for and of Learning. The successful candidate should be well versed in Universal Design for Learning, Effective Behavioral Supports, and the Collaborative Response Model for student interventions.
Must be able to utilize software programs, such as Learning Management Systems (we currently use the indionetwork.com system.
Must be knowledgeable about school software systems similar to Powerschool.com, PowerAdministrator.com, and Student information Management solutions for reporting student progress (we currently use the Eagle Eye Student Information Management system)
The successful candidate will follow and adhere to all staff handbooks, become familiar with our parent – student handbook and Effective Behavior Support matrices.
Participate in institutional planning meetings at a school and Nation level
Be prepared to contribute 100 hours of volunteerism in the school and Kapawe’no First Nation community.
QUAILIFCATIONS
Must have a valid Interim or Professional Alberta Teaching Certificate
Provide a Clear Criminal Record Check & Clear Child Welfare Check
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Must be able to communicate clearly with students, parents, community members and fellow staff
Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Must display proficiency in computers and related technologies outlined above
Willing to attend Professional Development training courses and workshops
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Education: Minimum - completed Bachelor of Education degree leading to an Alberta Teacher Certification
Experience: Preference will be given to teachers who have worked on First Nation Lands
Knowledge of Cree Language is an asset
Individual must have good Interpersonal Skills: Position must exercise tact and diplomacy. Position is required to interact with First Nation advocacy and support groups.
